P4 - Setting up your camera and film equipment

To film our Powerbeats Pro advertisement we have used filming equipment and we have had to set this up to get our footage. We have used two Cannon 250D cameras, two gun mics and two tripods to film our advert. We used the gun mics to take audio for the voiceovers in the advertisement. In these photos, you can see we are setting up the equipment ready to film our scenes for the advertisement.

In my group, I have helped to film the bus scene and library scene with Noah and Isaac. Noah and Isaac filmed the house scene. Ellie filmed a few videos of busses going by.

I have edited my own version of the Powerbeats Pro advert and I have created an end of advert graphic in Photoshop. I have done some filming, my own editing and photoshop design work for this project. My group have decided we are going to use my Powerbeats Pro advertisement as advert we are going to use.

There are a few legal constraints I must follow. Copyright is protecting someone's work/intellectual property (book, art, graphic design, text...) from being used without their permission. I won't use copyrighted work in our advertisement and I won't copy someone's work or use it. Libel is a false written public statement that is damaging to a person's reputation and slander is a spoken published statement damaging to someone's reputation. I won't write or have the actor say something bad about someone and to make sure the Powerbeats Pro advertisement is ethical and not offensive. To make sure my advertisement is suitable for ASA's laws, I will not make any misleading comments or claims about the Powerbeats Pro earphones.

If I didn't follow these laws, my advertisement could be taken down. I also want to make sure that the advertisement is rated U by the BBFC so this means no swearing, disturbing imagery, nudity, drugs or violence can be shown in this advertisement. I want the advertisement to receive a U (universal) rating because this means my advert can be played in the daytime and whenever, therefore, informing the audience about the earphones more often. Ofcom controls TV too, they have a law that states that no content that is inappropriate for children can be played before 9pm but afterwards. Therefore, I should make sure my advertisement is appropriate for children to watch too. On the set, we complied with health and safety laws, we did this by creating a recce and risk assessment to help assess any risks/dangers and how we can prevent them. You can see these below.

Covid

When out and about in public spaces, government guidelines state that we need to wear face masks. Busses might not be clean as lots of people will have gotten and off the bus which can spread covid.

We will take hand sanitiser with us and wash our hands regularly; we will stay away from people indoors when we need to film.

Take spare masks with us.

This is the Powerbeats Pro advertisement risk assessment. I created this before we started filming. A risk assessment helps us to evaluate what risks/dangers there are in the environment that might be harmful and help prevent or completely avoid them. Here you can see I have evaluated the risks in filming for every scene. We followed this risk assessment. For example, we used the camera strap around our necks to make sure we didn't drop the cameras. We didn't film in the road for the bus scene, we filmed on the path.

Here you can see the consent/model release form and the location release form I have created. If anyone is in our Powerbeats Pro advertisement (for example if there were people in the library or at the bus stop) we must have signed consent forms the ensure we have permission to use the media (videos, photos). We cannot accept consent verbally, the individual could withdraw consent. They could sue us, we could get in trouble with the law, the advertisement could be taken down or we wouldn't be able to use the footage/photos.

Here is a media release/location release form that we had signed by one of the members at the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum. They gave us permission to film our advertisement in their property. We did this for the university/work scenes, we thought the library would be a great place to film in. A member in my group created this form.

This is a consent form our Powerbeats Pro advertisement actor signed. This document means that Noah gave us permission to use footage of him in the advertisement and he cannot withdraw the permission now he has signed it.

Here are my storyboards, I have created these for my Powerbeats Pro advertisement preproduction process. A storyboard is a sequence of images in a chronological order to show what the advertisement will look like, how it will be edited and how the advertisement will be filmed.

Here you can see screenshots from the finished Powerbeats Pro advertisement, you can clearly see that I have used scenes and referred to the storyboards.

We decided not to do the bus scene because it would be hard to film. However, these scenes were taken from the storyboard.

Here the character is talking to Siri, we decided to do this instead of the Teams call and a phone call.
